Who needs to complete a PDP?
Initial Educators
Anyone who completes an educator preparation program for the first time in a particular license category (i.e. teaching, pupil services, administration) after August 31, 2004 will receive an Initial Educator license for that license category. All initial educators must complete a PDP to advance to Professional Educator licenses. These educators will continue to complete a PDP for each renewal of their Professional Educator license. |
Professional Educators
(post-August 31, 2004) Educators who completed their educator preparation program in a license category after August 31, 2004, including those who had advanced from Initial Educator Licenses, hold Professional Educator Licenses. Based on employment requirements, these educators must complete a PDP to renew their Professional Educator Licenses. |
Professional Educators
(pre-August 31, 2004) Educators who completed their educator preparation program prior to August 31, 2004 hold Professional Educator licenses. These educators have the option to complete either a PDP or six semester credits to renew their Professional Educator licenses. For professional educators who completed additional licensure program after August 31, 2004 in the same license category as the professional educator license they hold or previously held (e.g. have a regular education teaching license and adding a special education teaching license) will receive Professional Educator license for the additional license, and can renew all licenses by completing a PDP or six semester credits. |
